why do most spanish last names end in this?!? only answer if youre mexican or if you study mexican heritage!?

i was wondering my most spanish last names or a lot of them anyways end in ez. some examples are: velasquez, rodriguez, lopez, martinez, torrez, Diaz, perez, mendez, Hernandez, Ramirez, González, etc… its an easy ten points ONLY if youre mexican or you know a lot about mexican history and you give a DETAILED answer.
to user psycee and others like you, read the description. i didnt say you had to be mexican. i also said you could answer if you had knowledge on the background of mexican heritage. you say yyou have family members that are mexican and if you do and know about the history then you can answer.

The reason originated from sons and daughters taking their father’s first name and adding common endings like -ez, -az, -is, or -oz (common to Castilian or Spanish surnames). These are called Patronymic Surnames. It was used as a sign of respect. An example of this is:
Leon Alvarez (Leon Son of Alvaro).
