About how Russia want to know if I studied hard (most days) for a year?

I decided to start learning Russia this coming school year for my main project for history and culture of Eastern Europe Russian are my true passions (which I hope to study archeology Slavic and anthropology at a British university). I am very fluent in Spanish and comes fairly easily to me, but never put in any effort. I usually get one in Spanish, but I can honestly say I've never opened the textbook or having studied. I have a mentor teach me Russian private (a requirement under the senior project guidelines) and hopefully I get to meet him / her once or twice every two weeks for the entire school year. I want to learn this language so badly that I am quite prepared to study every day.

Since you've learned Spanish, which obviously has good study skills and a decent brain .. so it is ahead of most people to get started! :) It's quite a strong statement, saying that you will study intensively every day for one year. Good for you if you can, but there are many students that have that level of motivation. Since you have a familiarity with grammatical concepts, and although Russian grammar is different to Spanish, I could probably learn more grammar rules in six months (in an academic sense) if you really study all day. In practice, even after a year, which may not be long enough for the grammar to become a second nature, and yet probably have difficulty applying complex grammar rules "on-the-fly", while you are talking about. But reading and listening should be relatively easy. However, the difficulty is the vast amount of local vocabulary and syntax (the way Russians express concepts in terms of word order and vocabulary is often different from English) major. people can only master the vocabulary and syntax for a long period of time, especially with the syntax you need to be talking with native Russian daily to get "the hang of it. So to cut a long story short, within a year most students are hardcore achieve an intermediate level, and if you study intensively is possible to reach an upper intermediate level, which is higher than most to achieve. I wish him well in his endeavor, and I would be very interested in hearing from you in three months to tell me how things are going. Jonathon.
